Stealing some Taylor Swift lyrics to address some things that I’ve noticed regarding AI. There’s a lot of negative energy around AI.  Some of it makes sense and some, not so much. AI is here to stay and here to evolve. The TV was here to stay and it has evolved. So has the internet, access to music, social media, etc. AI is a little scary because it’s so fast and it also spits out information as if it has adequately addressed and validated all information. Heads up – it hasn’t. It is fast and it is fascinating and yes, it can and will replace some jobs and tasks. Who knows where it will go from there.

However, at least for now, it can’t replace human contact. It can’t replace true empathy, true listening skills, true togetherness. In fact, I’d argue that it keeps us from those unique aspects of being a human. Yes, AI can give you some data, but can it really help you understand and internalize that data based on your unique life experience? It can’t. It can write a report for you and yet you are responsible for making that report interesting, clever, and completely unique. Can it give you advice? Yes. But is that really where you want to get your life advice? From an internet tool that will give you that advice in a millisecond and that advice will have mixed concepts?

Could AI take over? It could, but you know what can stop it? You. You can put limits on it, similar to how you put limits on tv time, or social media scrolling, or video game time for your kids. As with every other type of major transformation or invention, we humans get to decide how and how frequently we use that invention. For most of us, moderation has been the answer to using something and to using it for our own benefit rather than our demise.

So here is my non-AI approved advice to you all. Try AI. See what you think. Find ways to use it that will benefit you and those you love. If your work wants you to use it, do that. Think of it as a modern-day television. Do you use a TV? Then you can use this too. Then decide how AI can improve your life and also how it could hold you back in some way. Get conscious about a platform that isn’t conscious and decide what the right way to use it is for you. You have the power, not AI.
