When I was a kid, I loved summer break because it meant lots more time for me to read. If my mom didn’t make me go outside every day, I probably would have laid in my bed and read book after book after book. Now, as a busy mother of three, I find summers to be more hectic than my reading addiction would like! When my kids go back to school I often am able to carve out a few more minutes a day to stick my nose into a book or listen to a great audio book.

I get fabulous fiction recommendations from my favorite book website, www.Goodbookfairy.com. Yet (and maybe not surprisingly), I’m a self-improvement junky and there are so many great choices in this genre. So, here is my first annual:

“The Kids Are Back to School Self-Improvement Reading List”

Life Changing Books:

Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck
Daring Greatly by Brene’ Brown
The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

Some Audio Favorites:

The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor
10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works by Dan Harris
Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell
Falling Upward: Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life by Richard Rohr

Miscellaneous Favorites:

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
Wild by Cheryl Stayed
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling
Personal History by Katharine Graham

This is only a partial list because I was getting a bit out of control and I didn’t want any of you to think I have a reading problem. So tell me what would you add to this list? Is there a book you go back to again and again to help you get through tough times or just to raise your spirits? Do you read actual books or online books? Do you listen to audio books? What’s your all time favorite self-improvement or self help book?

Love,
