The life lessons of COVID have been coming in fast and furious. Nothing in my history has been quite as dramatic or life-changing as this virus, and I’m saying that without actually having experienced the virus, thankfully. The quarantine, social distancing, lack of travel, and economy have all played a role in my now very different life. It has affected my friends, family, and business in profound ways. Some of those ways are for the better and for others, the jury is still out.

One lesson for me, and for so many people that I’ve talked to, is that I’m never postponing things again. I’m not going to wait for that perfect moment to tell someone how I feel about them or to take a trip or to find gratitude in the moment. Who knew that our lives could change this much in such a short period of time and yet also last for more than a few months?

My son got married last September and he and his wife decided to hold off on their honeymoon. Recently, he told me he wished they hadn’t waited because now it could be well over a year after their wedding that they take the trip. Many clients have talked about wanting to get their resume or LinkedIn profiles in order but had waited. Now they are under pressure to get it done due to a very shaky economy.

So often we wait for that perfect moment or perfect day or perfect situation and then we don’t ever do what we’ve really wanted to do. What in your life have you been putting off and why? We put things off either because we don’t want to do them or we have some fear around doing them. Ask yourself which is the case for you and then decide what you are going to do about it.

What have you been putting off and why? Are you afraid? Waiting for the perfect moment? Ask yourself which is the case for you and then decide what you are going to do about it. #dreams #goals #perfection #fear Click To Tweet

That someday trip when your finances are in perfect order or that next career step when your family is completely settled might not ever come. Rarely are our finances in perfect order or our family perfectly settled. Life is messy, incomplete, and so very short and limited. This virus has forced us all to stop and look at what we’ve waited for. It unceremoniously let us know that we didn’t need to wait.

Now is the perfect chance for you to think about what you want to do once the threat of this virus is behind us. Is it a trip? A new job? Changing your relationships? Where you live? Get clear as to what it is you want and get even clearer about how you are going to go about getting it. Don’t wait for the next pandemic (or equally disruptive life circumstance) to think about what you want out of life. Go out and get it now. Never wait again.
